Gordonvale Lions Club North Queensland Australia

Gordonvale Lions Club:

We are a club that has a lot of fun.

Our dinner meetings are inexpensive and full of laughs and entertainment.

We greatly enjoy our interaction with the Lions from other clubs and the public through our fundraising activities

We have a great annual Xmas bush picnic with the local community (unfortunately we have lost the cricket match 3 years in a row now)

We get great support from our our local school (Gordonvale High) for Youth of the Year. Always 6-8 contestants - this year we have 9.

We operate our Merry Go Round at the Channel Ten sponsored Special Children's Party in November each year at the Fred Moule Pavilion Cairns. This is always a heartwarming experience for all those who participate.

Our club is growing - last year we obtained 4 new members.

Fundraising and Sharing with the Local Community

Presentations to Community Groups

Because we are a small club that provides a food catering service at a number of large events, we often ask for assistance from other community and sporting clubs in our community.

We then share the proceeds from the fundraising with these clubs. Pictured is our Past President John Donald making presentations to community members who assisted us with catering at the four finals weekends held by the Cairns District Rugby League.

Becoming a Lion

Lions club members are men and women who strive to make a difference in their local community as well as in communities worldwide. Their volunteer efforts go beyond the support of vision care, to addressing unmet health and education needs worldwide.

GORDONVALE LIONS CLUB - 15 Kms SOUTH OF CAIRNS IN TROPICAL NORTH QUEENSLAND

Our club was chartered in 1968 and we currently have 22 members including 2 charter members.

Gordonvale Lions Club meets at 7.30pm on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at our own clubhouse located beside the the Gordonvale Race and Golf Clubs. For meeting bookings please phone Richard on (07) 40561053.

Major sources of fundraising for the club are the food van (pictured), weekly raffles and hire of equipment.

The club has available for hire AT VERY COMPETITIVE RATES:

* Barbeques, tables and chairs

* Sno cone machine

* Airconditioned club house including kitchen facilities, tables, chairs and data projector and screen for presentations.

*A children's merry go round.

* Our food van is for hire but only within the local area.

Our club is part of Lions district 201Q2 and has a major focus on providing support to our local community. We cater at the Great Pyramid Race, functions for Canegrowers and Fire Brigade, local sporting functions and Carols by Candlelight in our local park in the center of the town.

We join with other clubs in our district and use our food van to cater at the Relay for Life and the Townsville to Cairns Great Bike Ride. Both of these events are very significant with each one raising over $500,000 for the organisers with proceeds going to cancer research.
